Qliro in the Finnish market – a conversation with Ted Kyander

Finland is a fast-growing market for Qliro. Since the launch in spring 2025, our Finnish team has worked to build strong relationships with merchants, establish a local presence, and bring a modern payments approach.

To find out more about Qliro’s progress in Finland, we spoke with Ted Kyander, Qliro’s Country Manager for Finland. He shared his thoughts on the Finnish market, the importance of local knowledge, and how Qliro’s Flywheel model helps merchants not only convert more customers but also maximize growth over time.

A RAPID JOURNEY DRIVEN BY MOMENTUM

Looking back on Qliro’s first phase in Finland, Ted describes the journey as both intense and incredibly rewarding.

By setting up a local team early, Qliro was able to quickly understand the needs of the Finnish market and merchants. A modern, flexible checkout focused on conversion, competitive prices, and a partnership approach that felt different from traditional providers.

“It's been an exciting and fast-paced journey. Coming from the payments industry, I knew the Finnish market had room for a challenger that does things differently, and that's exactly what we set out to do. We signed our first local Finnish merchants quickly and supported by a great onboarding and merchant support team, we got them live faster than I expected.”

In short, local expertise, modern technology, and close teamwork have helped Qliro grow quickly in Finland, while still focusing on quality and lasting partnerships.

WHY LOCAL PRESENCE MATTERS IN FINLAND

For Ted, payments are ultimately about trust, and trust is built locally.

“When it comes to payments in Finland, trust is everything. Finnish merchants and consumers expect reliability, transparency, and a partner who understands the local way of doing business. Being local also gives us a much better understanding of Finnish consumers – how they prefer to pay, what builds loyalty after the purchase, and where the line goes between helpful communication and too much communication.”

Having a local team in Helsinki creates a much deeper understanding of what merchants and consumers actually need, from preferred payment methods and communication styles to post-purchase expectations and loyalty drivers. Those insights help shape experiences that feel smart, relevant, and truly suited to the Finnish market.

THE QLIRO FLYWHEEL IN PRACTICE – MORE THAN A PAYMENT PROVIDER

At Qliro, our goal is to help merchants grow over time. We do this with smarter payment flows, better post-purchase communication, and features like Upsell 2.0 and Loyalty Driver that support growth.

A good example of Qliro’s approach in Finland is how the Flywheel works in real life. Ted explains that when conversion rates go up, there’s more volume, which gives better insights and new ways to improve the post-purchase experience. More volume also means smarter communication, better payment flows, and features like Invoice 30–60 days that fit how Finnish consumers prefer to pay.

For Finnish merchants, Qliro offers more than just a checkout solution. Ted says Qliro is a partner focused on helping merchants grow with better conversion rates, improved post-purchase experiences, and features that make a real difference for their business.

“Qliro isn’t a marketplace selling your customer data or a bank trying to push additional financial products. For Finnish merchants, that means a partner focused on conversion, local payment preferences, and solutions that fit into your existing setup without any fuss.”

BUILDING FOR LONG TERM

Ted finds the Finnish market exciting because it shows that a payments company doesn’t have to be a big bank or a huge marketplace to offer a great experience. Merchants want partners who bring real value with better conversion rates, smarter customer journeys, and long-term teamwork. The biggest motivation comes from seeing merchants experience the impact firsthand – whether through improved conversion rates, stronger customer loyalty, or a better post-purchase experience.

“Seeing Finnish merchants notice the difference first-hand, whether it’s better conversion or happier customers after checkout, is what keeps me motivated. Finnish e-commerce is digitally mature, and merchants expect real value from day one.”

Looking forward, Qliro aims to keep growing its Finnish merchant base, working with both small businesses and large companies, as well as new partners. Qliro Finland wants to support the wider commerce community through events, knowledge sharing, and long-term relationships, as well as adding more local features for Finnish consumers.

Qliro’s journey in Finland is just beginning, and there’s much more to look forward to.
